How to shortlist cordless tools
Compare the application, tool type, battery configuration and kit contents before selecting your models.
ZM Tools buyer guide · 2026
Start with the application
Choose the product category by the job your customer needs to do. Drilling holes, tightening fasteners, cutting timber and maintaining a garden require different tool types. Record the materials, typical working conditions and expected workload before comparing models.
For a distributor, consider your existing range too. A useful addition should serve a clear application or price position, rather than simply repeat the role of another product.
Compare the complete configuration
Record the model, available specifications, battery, charger and accessories together. A bare tool and a complete kit are different offers, even when the tool body is the same. Check what the quotation includes before comparing prices.
- Tool category and intended application.
- Published model values relevant to that application.
- Battery model, capacity and quantity.
- Charger model and destination plug.
- Accessories, case and packaging.

Confirm the battery system
Do not assume two products are compatible because the voltage looks similar. Ask for the exact tool, battery and charger combination to be confirmed, then evaluate that configuration in the sample. Follow the instructions for the approved system.
Build a short, reviewable shortlist
Select a small group of models with a clear role in the range. Keep the model numbers in your enquiry and explain where each will be sold or used. If a specification is unclear, mark it as a question for review rather than treating it as an approved value.
Request samples of the configurations you intend to order. Review the controls, fit, supplied accessories, instructions and packaging against the intended application. Capture the final decisions in the quotation and approved specification.
Send the brief
Include your country, sales channel, selected models, estimated quantity and preferred timing. Add the battery, kit and branding details you already know. This gives the first conversation a practical starting point.
